Bell, Birchard, Guilfoyle, Williams and Norris golden at Youth Outdoor Championships

PITTSBURGH – Close to 4 dozen TRA athletes traveled to Rochester, NY for the 2018 Youth Outdoor Championships. Held at the College at Brockport, this annual competition welcomed over 1100 athletes from all over the country.
The Youth Outdoor Championships is a national competition for athletes 18 and under. Athletes can enter based on a set of performance guidelines and the event is club oriented as team awards are provided in all age divisions for both genders, for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
A total of 9 teams represented the Three Rivers Association, along with 5 unattached athletes. Teams included: Greensburg YMCA, Nadia TC, Pacer Track, Penn Hills Eagles, River City Elite, South Park, Steel City Express, Valley Speedsters and Western PA All Stars. Many competed hard to earn medals for placement in the top 8 (finals). Five athletes earned gold medals in their respective events and age divisions:
- Aniya Bell: 8U Girls – 400m
- Lenna Birchard: 9-10 Girls – 1500m
- Catherine Guilfoyle: 11-12 Girls – Pentathlon
- Darriell Williams: 9-10 Boys – Shot Put
- Daniel Norris: 15-16 Boys – Decathlon
