PITTSBURGH — The USATF Three Rivers Association had a stellar developmental track & field season with 7 competitive meets available for member athletes and clubs. Of the 7, two welcomed open and masters athletes. Along with the Association, meet hosts included: Midas, East Allegheny, Nadia, Greenburg YMCA, Penn Hills, Next Level, and Stallions track clubs. 2016 marked the return of 7 developmental meets as the previous 4 seasons (2012 – 2015) had a maximum of only 6 meets.  The 6th meet hosted by Next Level Athletics, and held at Thomas Jefferson Highs School, was the highest attended competition with 468 participating athletes and 18 clubs. In total, nearly 830 athletes and 21 different clubs participated in these meets which proved to be great competition and preparation for the impending Championship season.  An impressive 46 youth athletes competed in all 7 meets and over 60% of total athletes participated in 3 or more meets.

Notable, multi-meet event winners:

Midas TC 8Athletes have exactly one week to prepare and rest for the Association Track & Field Championships to be held June 18-19 at Cal U. This event is typically the largest competition as more open and masters athletes should also compete during this event.  This meet serves as an important qualifying meet for youth athletes. The Association Championships is the first round of the Junior Olympic progressional series. The top 6 individuals and relay teams in each event of each age division will advance to the USATF Region 2 Championships to be held on July 10 at Widener University, Chester, PA.  More information about the Region meet can be found by visiting www.mausatf.com.

Thank you to all the clubs who hosted developmental meets this year and good luck to all athletes and clubs this Championship season. Complete meet results can be found in the results zone.
