Robinson, Marshall, Melvin earn All-American honors at Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships

PITTSBURGH – – The 2017 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships was held in Lawrence, Kansas July 24-30 at Rock Chalk Park at the University of Kansas. Over 3 dozen TRA athletes from 9 teams made the trip to the Midwest and represented the association well among the top athletes in the nation. The event welcomed an official 8139 athletes who competed for 7-days.

Penn Hills Eagles, Amina Robinson saw the most success during the weeklong competition earning All-American honors in both the 1500m (2nd place, 5:44.61) and 7th in the 800m with a time of 3:02.88. Robinson has continually improved over the last 8 months. During the 2016 cross country season she was the 2016 Youth Cross Country Challenge Champion for the 8U girls. At the National Junior Olympic Championships in Hoover, AL she placed 30th out of 200 athletes, narrowly missing the top 25 All-American designation.

Other medal performers include Maceo Marshall, also of the Penn Hills Eagles. Marshall placed sixth in the 11-12 boys 200m with a time of 25.85. 15-16 boy, Isaiah Melvin also had a sixth-place finish in Decathlon with a total of 5291. Last year the Valley Speedsters athlete earned a bronze medal at the national competition a 13-14 boy in the pentathlon.

All-Americans received a distinct championship medal with the event logo, a custom hat, and championship patch.
